Motivation...

I love animals and cats in particular. They help me to relax and find a balance to compensate my often very demanding daily job routine. Maine Coon cats are gorgeous looking and fascinating. Ever since I decided in favor of this breed, I cannot get away from them anymore!

From the very beginning I was convinced that I wanted to start breeding and therefore registered with FIFE and later with TICA USA under the name of “Waterproof’s”.

Years ago I was very engaged with the Swiss Bobtail Club (Old English Shepdog). I owned two female dogs and one male dog and visited shows regularly both at home and abroad. With so many activities I did not have any spare time left. At the age of 11 to 12 years my dogs all died of old age and with a heavy heart I decided against getting a new dog. After my returning to professional work it would have been impossible for me to keep my dogs appropriate to the species. On the other hand the time was finally perfect to put my dream into action.

It took at least another two years until the first Maine Coon girl moved in with us. Bit by bit my cattery grew to 3 female cats and one male cat.

From dog breeding I knew that genetic disposition exists and the necessary tests have to be carried out prior to the first breeding. I was convinced to test my animals for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease), HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) and HD (Hip Dysplasia) prior to the first breeding. Despite good preparation, refreshing and furthering my knowledge of genetics, studying of pedigrees, careful selection of the animals and lively exchange with other breeders I suffered a major setback at the beginning. My first breeding cat showed severe HD at the age of one year so that I spayed her immediately. The male cat would not impregnate anymore after his first sired litter and a further girl hat to be spayed due to uterus cysts. The search for suitable breeding animals had to start anew.

I attach great importance to a harmonic family life among my cats, healthiness and well-being! I run my cattery with great care and love to the animal. It is very important to me that my cats are kept according to the species with plenty of room (house and secured garden).

I would never presume to obtain the breed that way. The Maine Coon does not belong to the endangered breeds. There are too many registered but unfortunately also non registered breeders. However, from my point of view, the popularity of the last couple of years did more harm than good and the quality suffered.

The Primary goal of my cattery is to show this fantastic breed in its full beauty. My cats should instantly be recognized as Maine Coon and never be mistaken for another forest cat. Primary I stick to line breeding and prefer approved show lines with verifiably tested ancestors. My cats are annually tested for HCM and prior to the first breeding are tested for PKD and HD. At the time of the first mating they are in perfect health without any noticeable problems. Therefore I breed with healthy, typeful and affectionate cats so that the future owners of my kittens also have the possibility to experience this wonderful breed and be as proud of them as I am.

If you would like to know more about our cats please feel free to contact me.
